 What is a Learner's License 

A learner's license (also called as learner's permit) is a type of provisional license that allows anyone, who is a teenager or at the age of 16, to practice driving a vehicle under certain conditions before they obtain a full driver's license. Here are some classes of vehicles which can be applied under a learner's license:

Non-Transport Vehicles (Personal Use)

  1. MC 50CC (Motorcycle with 50cc engine capacity)

    • Vehicles with engine capacity not exceeding 50cc.
  2. MC EX50CC (Motorcycle exceeding 50cc)

    • Motorcycles with or without gear, including scooters, mopeds, and bikes with engine capacity greater than 50cc.
  3. MCWG (Motorcycle With Gear)

    • Motorcycles with gear, including all motorcycles with any engine capacity.
  4. MCWOG (Motorcycle Without Gear)

    • Scooters or mopeds that do not have gears.
  5. LMV-NT (Light Motor Vehicle – Non-Transport)

    • Light motor vehicles (cars, SUVs, etc.) for personal use, not intended for commercial purposes.

Transport Vehicles (Commercial Use)

  1. LMV-TT (Light Motor Vehicle – Transport)

    • Vehicles like small taxis, commercial cars, and delivery vans.
  2. HMV (Heavy Motor Vehicle)

    • Includes buses, lorries, trucks, and other large transport vehicles.
  3. HPMV/HTV (Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle/Heavy Transport Vehicle)

    • Buses, trucks, and similar large vehicles used to transport goods or passengers.
  4. MGV (Medium Goods Vehicle)

    • Includes vehicles used for transporting medium-sized loads, such as delivery trucks.
  5. MPV (Medium Passenger Vehicle)

    • Vehicles designed to carry medium numbers of passengers, such as minivans and small buses.
  6. HGMV (Heavy Goods Motor Vehicle)

    • Heavy vehicles used for transporting goods like lorries or large trucks.

Steps to download your Learner License online-

  • Select Your State: On the home page click on your state from the dropdown.

  • Click on the "Learner License" Menu:

  • Click on "Learner License Services" from the menu. Choose print learner license or download learner license option.

  • Fill in the Application Number and Date of Birth:

  • Submit captcha

  • Download/Print: Once you have filled up all the details, click on 'view learner license'. Your learner's license will pop out. You may either download it as PDF or directly take a print out.
